Studying abroad

Why students are choosing to study Medicine and Dentistry in Europe

2 min read

Medicine and Dentistry are among the most competitive courses in the UK. High grade requirements, the UCAT and a limited number of places mean many strong students miss out on an offer. That is why more students are looking at English-taught degrees in Europe.

In short

  • No UCAT at any of the universities we work with
  • Entry based on your A levels or BTEC, sometimes with an exam or interview
  • Courses taught fully in English
  • More places available for international students
01

Different entry requirements

UK medical and dental schools usually ask for top A level grades and a strong UCAT score. Universities in Europe set their own requirements. Most look at your A levels or BTEC, and some add an entrance exam or an interview.

For students who narrowly missed a UK offer, this is another route into the career they have been working towards.

02

No UCAT

None of the universities we work with ask for the UCAT. Where there is an assessment, it is usually an exam in Biology and Chemistry or an interview, and we help you prepare for it.

03

Tuition fees

Fees depend on the country and the university. At the universities we work with, yearly fees start from around €9,000 in Bulgaria and $5,000 in Georgia. You can see the fees for every university on our country pages.

UK Student Finance does not cover degrees studied abroad, so it is worth planning early how you will fund your studies.

04

More places available

Competition for UK places is fierce, and many capable applicants are turned down each year. Universities in Europe offer English-taught places for international students, which gives you more options and more chances to start your degree.

05

A degree you can bring home

Courses are taught fully in English, including lectures and exams. Graduates of the universities we work with can pursue registration and work back home in the UK.
